Fishman Triple Play Express

Though not without its flaws, this is a great tool for those guitar producer who want to speed up their workflow and explore new creative horizons.

I never expected it to be perfect and to track notes like a midi keyboard, but for the price it's really amazing. Being able to instantly add synth sounds into a song without switching over to a keyboard and killing your creative momentum is a game changer (im bad at playing keyboards).

Im using a M1 Macbook with Ableton Live. When it comes to software it just works perfectly out of the box and the amount of options available is truly amazing.

Now here's a detailed rant about the main issue specific for me:
The bridge on my guitar (off-brand strat) was set too low so the pickup didnt initially fit under the strings. The solution for this was raising my bridge and therefore string action to almost unplayable height. Im guessing this can be remedied by changing the neck angle by placing a shim under it. I alredy ordered one but it hasn't arrived yet so I don't yet know if this is an effective workaround.
This also effects the midi tracking because the strings are still a bit too close to the pickup so even at the lowest sensitivity it can get too sensitive.

Other than that, this is a great tool for creative guitar players with at least some experience in music production. It's crazy to me that this is more or less the only option out there at this price range.

1. Ich hatte so 20 Jahre mit einem Shadow Guitar 2 MIDI - Converter gespielt. Der gab letztes Jahr seinen Geist auf.
In den Läden und bei Freunden hatte ich schonmal dies und jenes getestet.
2. Den Fishman hatte ich dann blind gekauft, und er funktioniert sehr gut!

Das Tracking perfekt! Die Latenz von Anspielen der Töne bis zum Triggern des MIDI-Signals ist sehr kurz!

Wie auch von den anderen Systemen gewohnt, gibt es Klänge, die gut mit der Gitarre spielbar sind - und es gibt Klänge, die sich sehr unnatürlich anfühlen. Das hat aber Nichts mit dem Pickup zu tun.

Der TriplePlay funktionierte auch direkt an einer Akai MPC One+, an einem USB-Host-Port eines Yamaha YC61 funktionierte er aber nicht.

Die mitgelieferte Software habe ich nur zur Kalibrierung verwendet.
Ein Test der mitgelieferten Software steht noch aus.

Strumming geht garnicht, Dead-Notes und Flageletts erzeugen falsche Töne. Schon das Anlegen der Finger oder Plektrum kann Töne auslösen. DAS IST ABER NORMAL bei diesen Systemen!

Man muss also sehr sehr sauber spielen und wird mit einem tollen Klangerlebnis belohnt. Die Verstellung der Höhe ist sehr gut gelöst!
Man kann den Pickup auch wieder abnehmen - hervorragent!
Ich verwendet den Pickup mit einer PRS SE.
Bei dem Preis würde ich das System auch wieder kaufen - ggf. auch als zweites System für eine andere Gitarre.
Gerne hätte ich eine Variante für klassiche Gitarren - mit Piezo Pickup!


Alle Fingerpicker oder klassischen Gitarristen sollten das mal ausprobieren!
