I may have found my perfect capo
Old Dawg 16.10.2025
I have tried a good number of capos, including Kaiser and Shubb clamp types, the original style G7th capo with the squeeze to tighten clutch mechanism and various screw-back capos (Paige and several other manufacturers). I find the Kaiser style capos easiest to use - quick to put on, take off, and move to different frets - but I usually have to retune one or more strings. Reviews suggest the screw-back capos cause fewer tuning problems, but I find they take a bit of fiddling to get the tension right and even then, I often need to do some re-tuning. So what about the G7th Heritage? The combination of the screw-back design and the 'adaptive radius technology' (ART) means that I do not need to re-tune! Hurray! The large knurled knob for adjusting the tension makes it quick and easy to fit and remove and I seem to be able to get the right tension really quickly. OK, it's not as quick as a clamp type capo, but that's a small price to pay for the absence of tuning problems. It's compact, so does not get in the way of my fretting hand. It has bits of rubber on the inside of the yoke, so the chances of accidentally marking the guitar neck are reduced. It can be stored behind the nut when not in use. The ART also means it works just as well on different guitars with different neck radiuses and string spacings. There may be other capos out there that are just as good, but I've tried a dozen or so and for me and my guitars, this is far and away the best. I am no longer searching for a better capo.
