Great premise, average execution

The guitar looks stunning, sounds fantastic and the new neck heel is so good, but at 1200 Eur, some things are a bit rough about the edges. Roasted maple with carbon rods reinforcement but the guitar required considerable correction of the neck relief, intonation and it exhibited severe fret sprout, which is why I decided to return it. The fingerboard exposed a lot of decoloration stains. The tuners are very average, string jumped a lot while trying to tune it before locking the system.
People seem to praise the inclusion of the FR1500 but I have cheaper guitars with non locking nut that hold tuning way better.
I was very hyped with this guitar, but it was a disappointment.

I used to own a pre-covid MIM DK24 that was way ahead in QC than the current line of "Plus" models. Maybe this guitar is an exception and I was just unlucky, who knows.

Beautiful guitar - but.....
Appk 16.01.2026
Ok I'm a Charvel fanboy. Been one since the 80's. And this Charvel PM PLUS SRS SC1 HH FR CM BB is a stunningly beautiful looking guitar. But, I take one star away from the review for two things:

1. it arrived needing a big set up. Intonation was way off, and the low E and A strings were buzzing off the 1st and 2nd fret. How can a €1,222 guitar arrive so badly out of whack from the factory? Disappointing, Charvel. You can do better!

2. How can a €1,222 guitar arrive with only a soft gig bag??!!! Seriously Charvel!! I've bought two Jacksons for around that price (one dearer, one slightly cheaper) and BOTH arrived with hard foam cases. Now I'm not saying Charvel should send a hard flight case with it, but for €1,222 I'd expect at least a hard foam case rather than a soft gig bag!

Apart from the set up and cheapo gig bag issues this guitar now plays and sounds wonderful. The neck is so fast and comfortable. The better quality Floyd Rose is a joy to use too!
