Even with its most affordable models, Martin prioritises the use of solid woods: Sapele, which is similar to mahogany, is used for the back and sides here, while the solid sitka spruce top has an ultra-fine satin finish to optimise resonance. This combination creates the dreadnought's distinctive sound, capable of cutting through any mix and particularly suited to energetic rhythm playing. In noisy environments, the Martin E1 preamp system allows the the D-10E-02 to be amplified, ideal for group rehearsals or gigs. It is discreetly integrated into the rosette and includes volume, tone, and internal tuner controls, while the robust, sealed machine heads ensure reliable tuning stability.

Martin Guitar was founded in 1833 and is thus one of the most long-established brands in the history of the acoustic guitar. Several of Martin’s developments – including the dreadnought shape, robust X-bracing, the placement of the neck-to-body transition at the 14th fret (as opposed to the 12th fret as found on classical guitars), and the use of steel strings – have now become staples of modern guitar construction that countless other manufacturers have since adopted.
