I bought this uke bass so that I have something to take on holiday that I can play accoustically, to practice and learn new things without having to plug in. If you are just playing along with an accoustic guitar and singer, the volume is fine when played accoustically. I do this sometimes with a friend. It's great to put some headphones on and listen to Spotify while plonking away on the bass accoustically, it sounds great! The short neck takes only a bit of getting used to, as you have to adapt your fingering a bit, compared to what you might play on a full size bass guitar. Being a violinist, this has not been a problem for me . It's not so easy to slide on the rubber strings - I haven't changed the strings which other people recommend, I'm sure that would be a good thing to do, but it is fine for me at the moment. The preamp is quite powerful and works very well on the PA, and the built in tuner is extremely useful. Because the strings are so loose you have to be careful how you pluck them, or they will hit the fingerboard and make a clicking sound. The instrument seems to be really well made, I was surprised how nice it was when I opened the box. It's worth getting the soft case for it, but I'm on the lookout for a hard case now. It is great fun to play!!
