I bought these pickups (plus an EMG preamp) to upgrade my MTD Kingston Z4. I’ve just joined a Classic Rock covers band with 2 guitarists, and wanted to be heard.
Fitting - not quite solderless because my bass has a long barrel output jack. And I needed to extend the battery ground lead. I also needed to drill 2 small holes because the stock Bartolini-shaped covers have 3 holes. But otherwise it all clicked in place pretty easily.
Sound - wow! I can’t believe how clearly I could hear myself over 2 guitars and a loud drummer. I thought my amp must have way too loud, but the band said I was fine. I just cut through so well. The impact was the same across all strings - it’s as though the pickups give you more of each note or something. Not distorted or boomy; just very clear and present throughout the room.
I’m very pleased- these pickups are a definite upgrade even for a £1000 bass.
