Elgato Prompter

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t sure at first. I watched all the reviews, weighed my options, and even considered going the iPad route. But after using the Elgato Prompter with my Elgato Facecam Pro, I can confidently say: this is the teleprompter to buy.

Unlike those clunky setups where you have to mount an iPad, deal with syncing issues, and fight with weird reflections, this is an all-in-one solution that simply works—every time.

I’ve tested it across Mac (M4 Pro) and Windows, and it’s flawless. No glitches, no weird quirks—just plug it in, and you’re good to go. The built-in monitor has great resolution, and if positioned correctly, your eye contact remains spot on, making meetings, YouTube videos, and presentations feel way more natural.

For me, this was a game-changer for Microsoft Teams meetings. I no longer look off to the side, I’m fully engaged with my team, and it feels like I should have been using this 15 years ago.

Bonus points: The packaging was top-notch, the delivery was smooth, and overall, this is a 10/10 product that I’d recommend to anyone—not just content creators. If you’re in meetings all day, it’s worth every cent.

I bought this teleprompter to stop the continuous messing about with blue tooth. I also bought a foot pedal all wired. I was using a Bluetooth phone etc, and spent more time messing with lost signals and small screen. I used a bigger teleprompter but the same there, messing about with set up So the Elgato fits nicely in between. People say the software could be better. But it does what I want it to do, which is basic teleprompting. But I think Elgato are on the case with software improvements. I would say it is designed for studio setups as it feels a bit lightweight and all plastic and it needs connected to a computer. But if it is to hang off lenses it would need to be light. The monitor part can be separated from the reflector part by way of two screws. If these screws were the same as the two big screws that hold the camera plate on, it would accommodate making the teleprompter more compact for travel. But apart from its fragility and it is a bit expensive, it is pretty good to use and that to me is the important part.

Overall, this is an excellent teleprompter for my needs as a streamer, but it’s not universal. It could be much more popular if it worked with a smartphone or tablet—even with external power via Type-C and a power bank. In its current form (only connecting to a PC or laptop), it’s basically a stationary device for home or studio use.
There’s also a small but annoying software bug (at least on macOS in my case): the automatic scrolling speed doesn’t work correctly. Long texts sometimes scroll at variable speeds instead of a steady pace. Changing the speed setting can double the value but only slightly increase the actual speed, while a tiny adjustment can suddenly make it twice as fast. After adding text or tweaking the speed a few times, I have to restart the software for it to recognize the set speed and scroll evenly.

Es gibt mittlerweile viele Berichte, Tests oder Reviews zum Prompter zu lesen. Daher dürften die durchaus nützlichen und praktischen Features bekannt sein. Der integrierte Bildschirm ist für mich der größte Pluspunkt.

Ich will kurz auf die Dinge eingehen, die ich gerne vorher gewusst hätte:
- Ein spezifischer Webcam-Halter ist nur für eine Elgato Webcam enthalten. Das Problem bei einer anderen Webcam besteht in der großen Lichtdurchlässigkeit der Rückwand. Diese soll wohl mit einem beiliegenden, schwarzen Tuch minimiert werden. Die Praxis im ausgeleuchteten Studio deckt da allerdings Mängel auf, die sich in Form von Spiegelungen direkt auf die Videoqualität auswirken. Lösung: eine selbstgebastelte vollständig abschließende Rückwand für meine Webcam.
- Für eine Spiegelreflexkamera liegen Adapterringe in unterschiedlichen Durchmessern bei. Damit kann das Objektiv direkt und spaltfrei an die Rückwand angeschlossen werden. Soweit die Theorie. Der Prompter hängt dann allerdings verschraubt vorne am Objektiv. Wenn im installierten Zustand der Fokus justiert wird, dreht sich der vorderste Objektivring und kämpft gegen Verkantungen im Adapterring. Das hört sich recht ungesund an. Wenn dazu die Kamera auf einem getrennten, eigenen Stativ befestigt ist, verdreht sich das Konstrukt in sich selbst. Lösung: das Objektiv mit einem größeren Adapterring etwas in den Prompter einlassen und den minimalen Spalt mit schwarzen Gummiringen abdichten.
- Wenn der Bildschirm eine Präsentation mit weißem Hintergrund anzeigt, bildet sich ein sichtbarer Schleier im Kamerabild. Lösung: die Farbe weiß auf dem Bildschirm vermeiden oder die Helligkeit des Bildschirms regulieren.
