Marcus Miller P5R Alder-5 VWH

1. Quality
I was impressed by the build quality. The finish is perfect, the tuners are very smooth, the bridge looks very solid. Very good frets, absolutely no sharp edges, I did't find any leveling issues.
Overall this Sire feels better built than my Fender Player Precision Bass (MIM).
Also the setup was almost perfect out of the box. Tune and play.

2. Sound
I'm happy with the sound of this bass. I saw people complaining about poor low end response in P5 basses. It seems those issues are resolved in P5R model. I think the pickups are different, the rosewood fingerboard may also help with this. This P5R has loads of low end. Much more than my Fender bass. I turned down the bass knob of my amp after the first test notes.
The sustain is insane, almost endless.
My only complaint is the definition of the B string. It is not bad, but not great either. In fact I expected worse from 34 inch scale and a single P pickup. It is a pretty OK B but keeps me from giving the full 5 stars in the sound department.

3. Conclusion
A premium instrument for a very reasonable price. Hard to beat value.
For a 4 string I will still go for MIM Fender. I just like how it sounds, more mids and bite.
If you need a 5 string P, Fender gives us only MIA options which are priced too high IMO. This Sire is quarter the price and probably 90% of the quality.

Die Lackierung ist 1A, der Hals fühlt sich super an, das Setup ist gut, die Hardware ist okay. Die Spielbarkeit ist gut. Ein kleines bisschen besser muss er noch eingestellt werden. Die B Saite ist absolut brauchbar.
Allerdings fehlt ihm noch ein Tikk mehr Biss im Sound. Nachdem ich eine neue E-Saite aufgezogen hatte, war diese schonmal besser als vorher. Ich werde ihm daher einen neuen Saitensatz aufziehen. Doch insgesamt ist der Bass gerade in Anbetracht des Preises wirklich ausserordentlich gut. Er ist natürlich etwas schwerer als ein 4 Saiter, aber das hält sich im Rahmen.

Sé que mi opinión puede ser muy subjetiva. Llevo tocando unos 15 años y siempre he querido enfrentarme al reto de las 5 cuerdas. Después de un tiempo. y de analizar muchas opciones, y dada mi experiencia con otros instrumentos, decidí una serie de condiciones muy maduradas y no negociables: el bajo debería de ser pasivo (no quiero depender de baterías, y la supuesta "fuerza" y ecualización me la da un preamplificador Palmer Pocket Amp Bass externo, comprado junto con el bajo y que situé en mi pedalera); tendría que tener un diapasón de madera "viva", no barnizada, tipo ébano, palo rosa o laurel indio (no de arce); quería un acceso al alma desde el cuerpo (no desde el clavijero) y, por último, unas pastillas de tipo Precision (adoro la versatilidad de mi Jazz Bass de 4 cuerdas, pero buscaba un sonido mucho más "gordo", original, profundo y sencillo).
La terminación es perfecta, el encastre es impresionante y su color blanco vintage es realmente precioso; la parte posterior del mástil es suave y tostada, muy bonita. El bajo es robusto, y puente y clavijas son de calidad: es un punto a favor tener la posibilidad de pasar (o no) las cuerdas a través del cuerpo. Y lo más llamativo: es un bajo muy ligero, teniendo en cuenta las opiniones sobre el peso de otros bajos Marcus Miller.
Por ponerle una pega, diré que el sonido de sus cuerdas es muy metálico, supongo que por el poco uso que aún le he dado, aunque pronto cambiaré sus cuerdas de fábrica por unas "flatwound" tipo La Bella o similares.
En resumen, ha sido una compra madurada y acertada, y lo recomiendo totalmente.
El servicio de Thomann, el seguimiento del envío, el cuidadoso empaquetado y la entrega en mi domicilio han sido excelentes, como siempre.
