Second-best of 9 monitors I tried
Ellery Daines 04.03.2025
I spent the last few months testing 9 similarly-priced monitor systems from KSD, Genelec, Amphion, Present Day Production, PSI, Dynaudio and Neumann. The A200 was my second favourite overall, beaten only by the Present Day Production MUM-8. I found the A200 an extremely nice-sounding monitor that struck a good balance between smoothness, fun and detail. I would highly recommend it for tracking/producing or listening for pleasure. It lost out to the MUM-8 on extreme accuracy and fine-resolution detail though, and mixing is the main application I wanted new monitors for so these factors were paramount for me.

Pros:
-Huge low end, definitely no need for a sub (at least not at 1.5m listening distance in my 5x5m studio)
-Massive amounts of headroom
-Really fun, inspiring and pleasant to listen to
-A lot of textural detail in the midrange
-Good mix translation
-Pretty to look at

Cons:
-My pair had a 1.5dB volume discrepancy between speakers, which persisted even after a factory reset
-No AES through connector to hook up speakers in series
-Slightly imprecise stereo imaging; it was hard to perceive panning changes finer than 20% where some other monitors worked down to 10% or less
-Low end almost overpowered my room even after turning the bass down on the speaker and calibrating with ARC4 to tame room modes.
-Tweeter has a slight roll-off above 10kHz that doesn't respond very well to corrective EQ. This contributes to the smooth, pleasant character of the speaker but at the cost of some high-frequency information.
-The remote control for accessing extra EQ features is really expensive
