Well, it's a multi-scale set
Andy Warner 27.09.2024
I've been using Elixir strings consistently for over 10 years, but I recently switched to a Dingwall multi-scale bass, and since Elixir doesn't make suitable sets, I had to find an alternative. Since I play frequently, I wanted strings that wouldn’t require weekly changes due to a loss of tone, so I opted for "DR Strings Dragon Skin”, which DR claims offer "extra long life." I installed them, carefully following the manufacturer's instructions. The strings seemed dark gray to me, unlike any other strings I've used before. Plus, they felt different too — my fingers seemed to stick to them, and I had to adjust my playing technique.

Now, to the crucial part: the sound. Right out of the box, they were as dull as uncoated strings that have already seen multiple gigs. Despite this, I decided to give them a chance by taking the bass to rehearsal and then to a gig. Strangely for coated strings, they sounded even worse after these sessions. So I can’t say they died after one gig—they were dead from the very first note.

In summary, I’m giving them one star because they are, after all, strings and can be installed on a guitar, and a second star for the multi-scale tapered wound set, which is hard to find.
