What made me choose Bitwig because it works natively on Linux. I had no previous experience with other tools, so I can't compare, but from the basic version I got, I am able to do everything I intended to do so far.
The interface is very user-friendly and you get accustomed to it quickly. I also use a midi keyboard, the Arturia MINILAB 3, and it works very well with it. There's no real setup that I recall, and the keyboards shortcuts are very useful on Bitwig just the way they come.
Installation on Linux was like that of any other program, and after registering the license, all was working.
If you want to start using a DAW, I would certainly recommend Bitwig Studio Essentials.

Annoyed that I really liked the demo and purchased what I thought was a level of Bitwig that support someone who just wanted to dip their toes into music production. I spent way too long watching videos and reading articles trying to understand what I was doing wrong. Turns out comping just isn't included in Essentials. Didn't you read the tiny print?
